ExpansionAlthough the expansion department has been efficient at bringing new chapters to conventions this year, those chapters are frequently left stranded. I would encourage a chapter sibling program where strong chapters will be paired with small or expansion chapters. Chapter presidents will be encouraged to communicate about strategies for growth and engaging chapter meetings. Chapter siblings will also hold joint activities and communicate at conventions. While CIA and expansion agents frequently are inexperienced in running a chapter, strong CPs have unique insights.
In addition, Expansion deputies assigned to each region should work closer with regional elected officials. Regional deputies could attend regional calls bi-weekly. Regional elected officials have unique insight as to the schools and individuals in their delegation, but often lack the resources to contact them. |
Chapter Internal AffairsMany chapters tend to fluctate in chapter membership from convention to convention because one grade dominates the chapter, and efforts to grow the chapter beyond that grade aren't placed in high regard. Even with large chapters, it is important to maintain their health in all grades. CIA will work with already established chapters to maintain and grow NorCal.
In addition, chapters with members in cabinet or elected positions are more likely to maintain a strong delegation. Thus, encouraging delegates from small chapters to take leadership roles, and giving them slight preference when assigning roles, leads to chapter growth. Finally, the Fall Leadership Summits were a resounding success this year, for the chapter presidents who actually intended. Although requiring attendance may not promote involvement, providing detailed communication about what the Summit's entailed is integral. In the weeks and even days before the summits, many were left in the dark about their importance. |
